Installing Windows XP Home on a computer with Windows 2000 PRO and no PRO CD!!

Please help!!! I have a P4 computer from an old friend of mine to set
up. It has Windows 2000 Professional on it (illegally) with no
accompanying CD. He purchased a new legal version of Windows XP Home,
and of course, I can't install it over top of Windows 2000
Professional. How do I completely get rid of Windows 2000 Pro? I can't
make a boot disk, as I don't have the 2000 CD. The boot disk I made
doesn't work at all, it won't format the drive. I haven't tried "del
*.*" from the a: prompt as of yet, but I think I've tried almost
everything else.
He doesn't have the cash to purchase Windows XP Pro, and we've opened
the XP Home CD package, so we're stuck with it now.

You don't need a W2K boot disk. Boot from the XP CD and follow the
instructions. If it's a full retail copy then you can just re-format the HDD
and install XP.

Make or download a boot disk from any computer. The CD isn't needed to do
so.

The OP has an XP CD - he can boot from that.

Thank you for your prompt reply! I must tell you that this is only my
second post on any message board. I am reading up on the "netiquette"
of it all. Please forgive me if I breach any message board rules.
Ok, that's said now. I will try to boot from the XP cd tomorrow (the
computer is at my friend's house) and get back to you. I will bring the
computer here with me for convenience's sake.

Oh, I did try a boot floppy from Win 98 (the only boot floppy that I
have), but I received an error that it was not the correct version. It
has format and fdisk and a bunch of other things on it, which I believe
I need to get rid of the partitions. Right now, when I start the
computer (the last time I left it), it has a choice of a dual boot, one
to Windows 2000 Professional, and one to Windows XP Setup, so obviously
it wound up on another partition, of that I'm almost sure.
