Installing Windows Backup to XP Home - on an HP Pavilion?

Hey all,

I've an HP Pavilion running XP Home Edition (upgraded to SP2). Following a
catastrophic system crash recently, I'd like to install Windows Backup to
backup things to an external hard drive. Windows Backup is not normally
installed with XP Home. I know how to install it from a retail or OEM CD.
However, as you may know HP does NOT provide OEM-branded CDs with their
machines, opting instead for a "product recovery partition" on the hard
drive or the much-maligned product recovery CD set.

Does anyone have any idea how to install Windows Backup under this
arrangement? I've emailed HP for help, but have received no response.

Thanks in advance!

Since NTBACKUP is not provided you can not install what is not on your
CDs.
If you need a back-up program, you need a 3rd party product.

Bad answer. See Hugh's response.

If you want a copy of NTBACKUP just click hear and you can download it:

You purchased a copy of XP Home OEM when you bought your computer and
NTBACKUP is part of XP Home. Having said that, you may find that NTBACKUP
is not the greatest backup program out there. I would get something like
Ghost and image your disk to the external drive. If you just want to backup
data, why not just drag and drop that data on the external disk.

I'm well aware of the limitations of NTBACKUP. However, in this instance the
price is right (free) and its capabilities meet the requirements.

Ghost is great for "point in time" recovery sets, but with a 250GB hard
drive, the image ends up taking forever to create and is difficult to
automate.

Raymond;
No, It is not a "Bad answer".
Hugh refers to a site that is not authorized to distribute Microsoft
files.
I avoid recommending unauthorized distributions of anything.
The only source for Microsoft files is Microsoft.
If the OEM determined their customers do not need the optional
NTBACKUP, they are not licensed for it.
If you can not get them from a legitimate source, perhaps you should
consider a 3rd party product.
Perhaps they should also complain to the OEM since the OEM is who made
the choice on behalf of their customers.
