My hard drive failed and I had to buy a new one. When I
tried to install windows, it would not accept the key
code. The code is attached to my box since I bought this
Dell computer with windows 2000 Pro pre-installed. I
called Dell support and the tech guy tried several key
codes that he said were universal, but I got an invalid
key code message every time. I tried the email support,
but you have to have the product ID and to get the product
ID, you click on "My computer" which I can't do since it
will not install. This is my first attempt to use the CD.
Any suggestions about breaking through to someone at MS
who can help me.

It could be OS tying which is typical of OEM. Unfortunately since your OS
is from Dell, they will be the only people that can assist you with support
as we do not hand out OEM PIDs.

I have just had exactly the same error on my (home) PC.
The only difference is that my PC supplier went bust 2
years ago. How do I get a code?
