installing windows 2000 pro-cannot detect hard drive

I installed a new hard drive on my acer aspire 4720Z due to it crashing. I am
trying to install Windows 2000 Professional. After it goes through all the
steps needed to install it says it cannot find/detect hard drive. Did I need
to do something to the hard drive after I installed it? Do I need to download
drivers? This is the first time I have done this so am at a lost as what to
do. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hello moooommmmy,

Depending on the harddisk, yes driver can be a problem. Check the vendors
website and use during setup F6 to install additional drivers.

If you are using SATA drives, you will need to install a driver by
pressing F6 when requested during the installation.

Hello moooommmmy,

You should find them on the Harddisk vendor's website.

You may have to partition and format the disk. Typically this is done by
starting the computer with the Windows 2000 CD, accepting the license
agreement, then pressing "C".

As Meinolf says, the HD manufacturer should have them on it's website.
But first you should confirm the drive type. If it's SATA or (probably
less likely) SCSI you will probably need drivers. If it's ATA (IDE) then
you shouldn't need drivers and your problem is elsewhere.

If you don't know the type, dig up the drive's model number and Google
for it which should tell you. Or post it here and someone will know.

As an aside: I don't give a fig for all the pretentious nonsense about
either top or bottom posting being the only "right" way. But as a
request, if someone has started a thread-reply by bottom (or top)
posting, please continue in like fashion. Alternate top/bottom posting
(whether to "prove" a point or simply due to lack of thought) rapidly
makes a thread un-followable and therefore useless to people coming later.
