I allowed the XP Home trial version to run out. Now I want to put XP Pro on
top of it and I am not getting anywhere. XP Home continues to go to the
activation screen and that's it. It doesn't recognize XP Pro in the CD Rom
even when I click on set up.

I would like not to do a clean install, as I will loose files.

Can anyone tell me how to put XP Prof over XP Home trial verson with the
least amount of headache?

Thanks

Hi

What kind of XP Pro CD have you got - Upgrade/Full? The best way may be to
delete the Home Trial version first, after backing up your valuable data
files for future use.

I have the Full

I agree with Will, but I take it there is no way for you to get to the data
to reliably back it up now?

So when you boot from CD (XP Pro Full Retail Version) - it does not
recognize XP Home as already being installed and offer you the option to
upgrade?

To upgrade to Windows XP:
1.. Start your computer, and then insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the
CD-ROM drive.
2.. If Windows automatically detects the CD-ROM, click Install Windows to
start the Windows XP Setup Wizard.

If Windows does not automatically detect the CD-ROM, click Start, click
Run, type the following command, and then click OK:
CD-ROM drive letter:\setup.exe

3.. When you are prompted to select an installation type, select Upgrade
(the default setting), and then click Next.
4.. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the upgrade.
