installing unknown RAM

If you don't know what kinda RAM your motherboard uses. Will this work , if
it fits it's ok? My brother's Compaq ICS host in the living room uses SD-RAM.
Mine here in the room, Dell 8300, uses DIMM I think. Oh no that's the
connectors. No, I'm reading in my user's manuel to use DDR memory in my
computer? I"m just learning about different kinds of RAM in my class. I've
gotten to DRAM and SRAM and how the CPU uses some SRAM in the internal cache.
Oh well, L1 ok. I'm not sure about external cache ok L2. I think that's a
combo of SRAM and DRAM? No , just SRAM ? Anyways that's getting off the
subject sorry. So if it fits, it will work? I'm coming down with something.
Some type of cold or flu. My class just released lesson 8. I"m on Lesson 5
chapter 3. All lesson consist of 5 chapters. Anyways, again getting off the
subject. Oh, I would go into my lessons and look it up , but I'm not
comprehending anything I read or type because of the way I'm feeling. I'm
going on Monday to get a chiropractic adjustment to knock out this feeling
and get back to studying and outting this computer together. Oh, yes I need
memory also . But , I do have some lying around.

"If it fits it will work" is not the case with RAM.
No.

It has a speed rating.

No.

You need to know the type of ram (usually the wrong type of RAM won't fit,
so this bit is mostly ok) and you need to know the speed rating of what is
currently installed, and you need to use RAM that matches the currently
installed stuff.

http://www.crucial.com have several tools to help you decide what kind of
RAM you need and are a good company to order RAM from in general... not the
cheapest perhaps but in terms of supplying good quality stuff that will work
in your machine they are very good.
