installing to a server

I'm building websites in FP2002.......then my intentions are to acually put them on a server! Does anybody know how you would go about doing such a thing? If the server host offers FP extention for 2002 am I to use an FTP program for uploading. Also I've tried previously with someone elses "instructions" to do as mentioned with a third party initially installing the site on a server...I then did some uploading of files/upgrading the site and it's pages with moderate success considering I had absolutely no compass to work with........To recap...this server stuff is very, very, very, vague and disheartening to the novice to say the least and almost makes a person want to stop dead in his tracks when it comes to building websites!!! _______particularly when it comes to sorting files making sure embedded files are truly embedded and pointing to right place etc... Can anyone point "me" in the right direction so I can get on with the fun stuff of building websites. Also, I like to implement Photoshop pieces within my work when making a site. Is there such a thing called an "HTML converter" that I can use to bring the file size of these PS pieces down and still maintain their pristene image quality and still stay usable and stable for imagemap use etc....without having to empty out my bank account...........any help in this regard would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated.....again thanx from John

Good choice.

No. Choose Publish Web from teh File menu, and then specify the URL of your
remote site.
Also I've tried previously with someone elses "instructions" to do as
mentioned with a third party initially installing the site on a server...I
then did some uploading of files/upgrading the site and it's pages with
moderate success considering I had absolutely no compass to work
with........To recap...this server stuff is very, very, very, vague and
disheartening to the novice to say the least and almost makes a person want

If you publish via FrontPage, FrontPage will handle all of this for you.

If you must publish by FTP, be sure to publish the *whole* site, including
all hidden folders.
Also, I like to implement Photoshop pieces within my work when making a
site. Is there such a thing called an "HTML converter" that I can use to

There's no magic bullet that decreases image size while perserving full
quality. Just use Photoshop to save the file in GIF or JPEG format.
Experiment with different picture sizes and (in the case of JPEG)
compression levels until you get a result and a file size you can live with.
