From the research I have done it seems to relate to an older version of the MSDART.DLL file, which is located in C:\windows\system32
Note: Make a copy of the current version of your msdart.dll file as you are about to overwrite it. Right click it and choose properties and
write down the version of the file (2.81.1117.0)
1. Expand the XP Service Pack 2 install file by running the executable with the -x switch:
xpsp2.exe -x then specify the folder to extract the service pack into eg. C:\Workspace
2. Expand the msdart.dl_ file by typing:
expand C:\Workspace\i386\msdart.dl_ c:\workspace\msdart.dll
3. Copy the expanded msdart.dll to a floppy disk and boot into the Recovery Console on your PC.

4. In Recovery Console log in to your XP install and change directory into C:\windows\system32
5. Copy the newly expanded msdart.dll file from the floppy in to the c:\windows\system32 directory.
6. Type exit and reboot.
Try the SP2 install again.
