Installing SP2 Issues

After using Service Pack 2 for a while, my computer gets mad and is very
reluctant to log me on to windows. It usually locks up at the Welcome
screen, but after restarting several times, it eventually lets me in without
crashing. Other than that, no problems.

I plan on reformatting and reinstalling Windows XP along with my software
soon. What would be the best method to set up SP2 and limit the amount of
problems? Should I install drivers or SP2 first?

Or should I just ditch SP2 and leave SP1 on the comp after reformatting? I
keep my firewall and virus protection updated. I don't really need Windows
complaining.

If you have a retail bought CD than slipstream SP2 & create an entirely
new install CD........I personally do this to all MS products with SP's,
especially OS installs...........

There are plenty of instructions doing a google search, some easier than
others to understand. You can start with this one as I cannot find the
master instruction file I created at the moment. Go to google.com and
type a search using "slipstream XP SP2" or any combo of a search if this
one is flakey for ya...........Good Luck.

Hey there Kevin,

I would reccommend that you install your drivers first after the reinstall
to ensure a properly working computer before installing Service Pack 2.
Especially if your going to have to redownload it from the net, you'll want
to make sure that the network adapter drivers are installed and working
correctly.

Next install Service Pack 2. You don't want to install the applications
before this point , because this will just cause additional frustration with
the SP install if anything goes wrong. After the SP install has been
completed, make sure you visit the Microsoft Windows update site and download
any additional patches or drivers that are listed. The drivers should be
WHQL certified to work with XP SP2 and may take care of some possible
hardware issues that you may have been experiencing.

After the Service Pack installation is completed, go ahead and begin
installing your applications. Once again, make sure that you have the latest
software updates for your applications, as many software manufacturers may
have released updates to accomodate for the new service pack.
