Hi,

After being hit by some nasty spyware I finally decided it was time to see
if SP2 would help me securing my machine further.

I have an up-to-date SP1 WindowsXP Pro installation (Dell OEM) and just did
an update and selected SP2. Installation starts with a a copule of steps but
quite soon it stops doing anything and just displays its activity, verifying
product key.

Second time I tried to download the full SP2 (not running update) and
launched the installation manually, same sympthoms.

I'm out of ideas how to get beond this point.

Try downloading to my documents or similiar, move the file to new folder,
close out,go to run,type:SigVerif Advanced,browse to folder,run the scan(s).
Or let windows or microsoft update install it directly.

Same result even after following the steps below. I have had a stable system
for two years now but if I'm going to SP2 it seems like my option now then is
a full re-install. The Windows installer or Microsoft update does not help
either.

I had a similar problem with SP2 before except mine didn't hang, it brought
of a error. My problem was that my XP Installation was corrupt, even though
it worked perfectly before installing SP2. Reinstalling XP worked for me.
Another suggestion: Try using a commercial Microsoft XP disc to install XP
instead of using the Dell XP install disc that came with your computer.
