Installing programs on Windows 2k

I installed a program recently(calendar program)from the
Administrator profile initially, upon entering the other
users profiles I then had to install the program again
from each profile. On a Windows 2k computer with multiple
profiles, is there a way to make global changes or
installs from the Administrator's account?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I expect the program was installed in such a way that all users could run
it, but the shortcuts were copied into the administrator's profile rather
than the "all users" profile during installation.

Right-click on the Start button and open all users. Then do the same, but
just click "open".

Find the program folder or shortcut in the current profile and copy (not
move) the shortcuts to the "all users" profile. Then delete the original.

The reason for doing the copy rather than just moving it is that the
permissions will be wrongly set if you just do a move. By copying, the
permissions to the shortcuts get inherited from the destination folder.

Hope this helps

I just give the user temporary domain admin rights, change
their password and then install everything under the
user's login ID. When everything is installed, I give the
users 72 hours to make any changes and then I withdraw
Domain Admin rights. Works fine. The user's software is
ALWAYS installed in their profile folder correctly and
with the correct permissions.

Aaaaaaahg! Security isn't an issue where you work then.

What's to stop the user granting themselves domain admin rights themselves
while you've given them domain admin rights? Relying on users' stupidity
isn't a great way to run things. If any half-clued-up user knew what you
were doing, they'd be straight into stuff they shouldn't be.

What's wrong with giving user administrative rights only to thier machine,
if you insist on installing software that way? You don't even need to leave
your desk to do that.

That's not to mention that if your users change machines, they won't be able
to use any software.

Sorry -- horrible "solution".
