Installing pc133 ram on a pc100 machine

It worked after I rebooted (ie showed in the system information that I
had put in more ram) but after a few mins the screen froze and
whenever I moved the mouse I had stange purple lines vertically across
the monitor, I rebooted and now system information no longer
acknowledges that i put in any ram, what do I do?

originally I am using a hp brio ba400 64MB (it says 63MB!) I added a
64M pc133 ram stick

Your HP obviously isnt happy with PC133 ram. I think you will have to
take it out and stay with 64Mb

Actual memory on a 64 stick will be 65,536. Its odd that it shows
63Mb. It is probably taking some of the ram for the graphics or such
like.

You MUST use low density memory! If you go to http://pcboost.com you
can see the exact memory that HP computer you have, will run...
It costs more than the cheapo memory, but, it WORKS!

That's what I was thinking, too.
Actually, being the designated GEEK on this block of the neighborhood, I
just went through all of this learning about HP requirements on their
computers yesterday, helping a neighbor lady search for memory to expand
her HP Pavillion 6735 that came with only 64 Mb of SDRAM. We went for
the 256Mb for $97.00, it being about half of the price that HP
charges... You also want to limit any one stick of SDRAM in this
computer to 256Mb, because the architechture of the system can only read
that as the max it can address (256Mb per slot).
