Installing original XP to other computer

I have just bought a new laptop with Vista pre-installed. I want to
uninstall it and load XP from my original legal disc. Am I allowed to do
this?

Yes, as long as you have a "retail" and not an "OEM"
Windows XP license. However, you should know that
your laptop manufacturer will no longer offer any
technical support if you should have a hardware issue.

Additionally, since laptop computers require specialized
hardware drives, you need to first check the laptop manufacturer's
support web site and see if they have Windows XP drivers
available, such as video adapter, audio, NIC, modem, etc.
If these functionally important Windows XP drivers are not available for download,
then you need to to stay with Windows Vista.

Thankyou Carey, I have checked my XP disc; It is a bronze disc, ver 2002.
There is no ref to OEM and when I place it in drive is shows a menu with four
choices.
If you think this is OK I will check with laptop maker as you suggested.

Did your "original" Windows XP CD come with a computer system?

If so - what type of computer system (laptop, desktop, etc)?

If it did come with another system - is there a product key sticker on
whatever computer it came with?

Yes Shenan it came with a new desktop system and it does have a Product Key
sticker attached.

Aha! That sticker does have a OEM product ref. This is not good?

Thanks to everybody for your help. I've decided to bite the bullet and join
the Vista users! How bad can it be, right? I mean I went from '98 to
2000 to XP and I'm still computing.
