installing new programs after vista instalation

After trying several times to upgrade vista and getting start-up
problems.........Iit finally worked after a two day stretch!
Low and behold, everything on my computer was deleted! Now I have to
re-install everything all over again.......even AOL and printer info.
Pictures, videos, and music all GONE!
Now when I try to install a program nothing happens. I put the cd in and
then nothing! Someone please help me!!!! I tryed to type in setup and
install, but it just searches for a file named setup or install instead of
doing the command.

Im sure its an easy fix, but Im gettin nervous and I need a step by step
instructions

if you insert the cd and nothing happens, just hold down the windows key and letter R, when the windows opens type d:\setup and press enter. you need to change the D for the actually letter of your cd or dvd reader
Hope that will do the trick for you
Good luck
