Installing new Monitor in Windows ME

I need to install a new monitor on a Compaq desktop where the old monitor has
died. How do I go about that when I have no monitor to look at while
installing the new one?

What happens if you just plug it in? Worst case startup in 'Safe Mode' if
the adapter screen res is over range and back it down.

Plug new monitor in to pwr, connect monitor VGA cable, boot PC
No need for anything else
