installing new hardware / automatic uninstalling

I have tried to connect a new printer, i load the disk and software correctly
and as soon as it has finished installing it automatically uninstalls. I have
also found any new connection via USB like my new phone or dongle it will
also not recognise. But it does recognise existing old pen drives etc.
Suggesting it won't except any new software. I have tried lowering the
security and stopping mcafee, without success. Any ideas please?

Paul, try disconnecting all you USB Devices. Also remove the Printer
Software and drivers. Rt click MyComputer select Properties>Hardware>Device
Manager>USB Controllers.
Rt click on each one and choose Uninstall. Then restart and let WinXP
reinstall the USB Controllers. Then Reinstall the Printer Software and do
not connect the Printer until told
to do so.
