Installing multiple copies of same application in XP

The tech support of a major home finance s/w program
suggested that I install the program individually in each
user profile to correct a problem. (Data entry
confirmation sounds only play for the user profile that
installed the program --other user can use the program
but get no confirmation sounds.)

Is multiple installation of the same program application
a proper and XP supported installation technique? It
sounds like a kludge to me.

It doesn't actually install the application multiple times, it just installs
the settings for each user.

A program that's written to understand a multi-user system would ask you if
it should be installed for one user or for all. But if the program doesn't
understand how to deal with multiple users, you may need to do the install
multiple times.

Of course, if you wanted it for just one user, it would probably work with
all of them.

It's most definitely a "kluge," and would not be necessary if the
application were properly designed to work on Win2K or WinXP.
