I need to setup my hard drive so I can boot more than 1 o/s at a
time. I currently have XP & Linux but I also need 2008 Server & 2003
Server and its possible I may add another o/s in the future. Which of
these must be installed on there own primary partition and which can
just be installed on a logical drive? I know I can only have 4
primary partitions so hoping I can use logical drives.

Thanks,
Chris

You would be much better off using something like bootitng, download a
trial version from www.terabyteunlimited.com. You can set it up to have
an unlimited number of primary partitions. They have their own ng.

Do you mean simultaneously? Or alternately?

Unless you have speed or hardware support issues, SUN VirtualBOX
will let you run multiple operating systems SIMULTANEOUSLY, until you run
out of ram. And it greatly simplifies your management issues. You can
back it up by copying one file...and not lose any configuration or
licensing info. And if your system crashes, you can copy the virtual
drive into another system and be up in minutes.

I suppose dual boot works fine if you set it up and leave it alone.
I gave up because some utility was always trashing the boot manager.

Plug-in hard drives work much better. You're running ONE os in
an environment that it understands and won't be changing.

If I need something I can't get in VirtualBox, I just swap out the
hard drive and reboot. Common files are on a USB drive that works
with any hard drive/OS.

Thanks I'll download and see if bootIt will work.

All you need is one active primary partition for the system partition.
All of the operating systems can be installed in logical volumes.
