Installing "full, retail" version over a fraudulent copy

Unfortunately, I "was taken" by a 'crook' who has been caught. I want to
install a legit, "retail version" of 'XP' that I plan to buy directly from
MS. Do I face any special problems installing the legit copy? Will the CD
routinely remove the old, now corrupted, version?
Thanks. redoak

What do you mean corrupted version, is your stolen version
no longer working?? if yes, then format and do a clean
install.
if by corrupted you mean an illegal version, then yes
purchasing a full legal copy will allow you the ability
to install over the top of the old one, with no problems,
unless you tell the new version to do it, it won't remove
the old one, it should ask you if you want to do a repair.
I suggest you do an in place upgrade. only because this
allows you to enter the new registration key.

Thanks for your reply. My current OS is not fully functional; e.g. lost
System Restore, Help and Support, Search and others. All this happened a
couple months ago. Interestingly, MS will do automatic updates to my
fraudulently installed system. However, I can't update "Office," because I
do not have the CD. {redoak}
