Installing fonts....

One is supposed to be able to install extra fonts by following the path
Start\Settings\Control Panel\Fonts\File\Instal New Font

When I click File, the options listed are
New
Create Shortcut
Delete
Rename
Properties
Close

[Instal New Font] is not listed.

Therefore, I copied new fonts into the Fonts folder (which is supposed to
work). Yet only those that were installed with W2K are available in Word (or
other apps) (printer is an HP4200).

Any suggestions as to what might resolve the problem would be greatly
appreciated.

In File the only choice available is Add New Font, if you are using W2000
You should have a dialog for Add New Fonts, It has the usual tree for selecting
the input, like any disk or CD or even drive A:
Then you should choose a location for the new font and that is it.

In File the only choice should be Add New Font but for some reason, in my W2K
it doesn't. It appears that the registry settings for the Font folder are
"corrupted" as it appears to have the same "properties" as a regular folder
vs. the "properties" that the Font folder should have. It's strange....

Well if you have a backup, you are laughing. If not then SFC /f might just cure
your trouble - if not, well you know what to do. Then remember - take the time
to make a backup - I don't do it near often enough but at least once per month.
I use Acronis and find that brilliant.

Yes, the System & Read Only attributes for the Fonts folder were the problem.
The commands have "returned". (Now it's just a matter of deleting the fonts
that weren't correctly installed and re-installing them.)
