Installing Fax

When I go to Add Remove programs to install the fax, the system requests
a:\i386. My Windows Professional XP Upgrade disc has this (under a
different drive letter). However, the Windows Professional XP OEM disc that
came with the computer does not have this directory. What are the issues
here?

Windows XP remembers the Path or source of it's original media &
whether that media was a CD-ROM or a network/drive point. When
you add/remove Windows components it must have access to i386,
the installer folder. Many OEM PCs come from the factory with the
i386 folder resident on the computer. Normally, it will exist as a folder
under Windows. You'll know you've found the correct one if it has a
WinNT or WinNT32 file inside of it. When the system requests the
path, just browse to the i386 folder on your C: Drive.

There are no issues. The applet is looking for just the i386
folder, possibly for some installation files, or whatever. The
thing to go is to indicate the right location, e.g., c:\i386,
or wherever it might be.

Thanks for the information. However, it is about the most stupid,
counter-intuitive thing. I never installed any windows component from the
floppy drive.
