Installing DOS program w/hardware lock

C

Chris

I have an old copy of 3D-Studio R3 for DOS. I do not have
enough money to by a new version of the software. I am
wondering what issues I may encounter if I try to install
the program to run on my Windows 2000 Professional machine
at home. The program does come with a hardware lock that
is attached to the parallel port. Will there be a problem
running the program since Windows 2000 does not let DOS
programs access hardware? Will this fact prevent the
program from detecting the hardware lock? What other
problems may occur?

TIA for any advice/input.

Unless you blunder across someone who has the same setup (hardware and
software) it's pretty difficult to say just how much grief you will
experience. There could be a hundred issues or it could work fine or
somewhere in between. All you can really do is try it. Personally I
would set up a dual boot and run it that way, but you never know till
you try.
