installing an old Word app to new computer

I am trying to reinstall and old Word 2000 to my new desktop computer. It is
asking for a CD key that I no longer have. Would it even be compatible any
longer? MicroSoft no longer has phone support for Word 2000. I thought I
could access the Word 2002 from my laptop on this network but don't know how.
MS doesn't offer phone support for Word 2002 either. I don't see these on
MS chats or online help. How do I do either of these? Anyone? Am I going to
be forced to purchase one or two new Word 2007 or other software??

If Word 2000 came installed on your own computer, then it was an OEM version
and is not licensed for another machine, anyway. But if it was a retail
version, you may be able to get a new key if you have proof of ownership.
See "How to Obtain a New Product Key for Office Program Setup" at

If all else fails, you can get Word 2002 as part of Works Suite (Word and
five other useful apps for a very reasonable price), or you could get the
Home and Student edition of Office 2007 (though don't go into the latter
option without being aware of how fundamentally different the UI is in Word
2007).
