installiation of vista rc1

i have recently installed vista rc1 with the understanding that all my files
on xp were transfered also but they have all disappeared any ideas on how to
get them bak please ive got photos and bits that i need

Did you run an upgrade or a clean install. If you ran a clean install and
formatted the drive in the process then your files are gone.

If you ran an upgrade, have a look on your C: drive for a folder called
windows.old
Inside that folder, you should find a Documents and Settings folder that
will contain the old user profiles, doc folders etc

after a "clean" install a lot of the time you can get your files back using
software for example --
