installers just crash!

I have just re-installed XP 2003 pro edition - actually I
had XP before, although I'm not sure what version. I
have tried to run various installers - Norton Internet
Security/AntiVirus, Windows Updates, and a CD program -
and they do not run properly. For example, the Norton
installers just disappeared. The CD program installer
just crashes and disappears. The critical updates for
Windows "say" they've installed successfully, but when I
go back to the Update page, it still lists them as
needed. I tried to install the Blastworm protector and
it asks for another security update, but that also will
not install. Please advise what is this installation
problem and what should I do.

Please post back and let us know the exact version of Windows
you are using. There is no "XP 2003 pro edition".

Sorry, it is WinXP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack
1.
