A program keeps trying to install itself when my computer is turned on, and
brings up error messages. I've tried searching for it in msconfig and
downloaded the windows installer cleanup, but neither can find it. Is there
some way of searching for programs that are trying to install themselves?
Cheers, Tim.

Download and run the following utility from Microsoft.

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

I see you have already used the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, sorry
about my previous post.

What are the error messages and what is the installer? Have you tried to
prevent some programs not to start up when the computer starts when you used
msconfig?

There's an initial error message saying "can't read from D drive", then
prompts for inserting a disk or cancelling, then saying it's unable to
complete installation. It's just one of those unnecessary things that gets on
your nerves...

Have you tried disabling everything under the Start up tab in msconfig and
then reboot. After the reboot, go back into msconfig and enable one item at
time then reboot the computer until you find the Start up entry causing this
problem. When you identify, the start up entry then remove the start up entry
when the start up entry is located.

Would Autoruns from www.sysinternals.com be of any use?
