I'm running XP Home with SP2 on a Dell Dimension 8100. Recently, when
opening any newly-installed apps, I get two error messages, as follows:

"Please wait while Windows configures Backup Dell-Installed Programs",
followed by:

"Internal Error 2718.
{2A2766A4-6AE4-11D4-AC8E-52544C1966EE"

However, after I click on OK at the bottom of each error window, the apps
open normally.

I've tried everything I can think of to eliminate these error messages,
without any success. I've also e-mailed the Dell Support People, but the
only thing they've come up with is that I should reinstall ME, which is the
OS that the system came with when I bought it. Needless to say, that
suggestion doesn't thrill me to death, nor do I want to reinstall XP and SP2.

Incidentally, both System Restore and Norton GoBack said that they could not
find any restore points, or I'd have tried that as my first attempt at
resolving this situation.

Can anyone help????

Unfortunately, a reinstall of any chosen OS would be your quickest solution.

Something is corrupt.

Thanks, Jason. From all indications, that looks like about the only answer;
which means I'll have to reinstall ME, then the Dell XP Upgrade, then SP2,
then all my apps and backups. Arggghhhh! To paraphrase Disney: "Welcome to
the wonderful world of computers!"
