Hello..
Been running XP Pro since 'day one' with NO trouble...(I
should have left it alone) Installed SP2, now I have NO
LAN connections AND NO internet. I disabled XP firewall
AND my Norton (just 2 C if I could connect). IPconfig
states Node Type "unknown", IP routing - "no" and WINS
Proxy "no". I'm using DHCP - address, subnet, DNS,etc
all displayed. when I ping either the PC host name or by
the DHCP IP address, I get time out. I attempted to
UNINSTALL SP2....I got my IE Browser back, but NO email,
web mail and NO LAN. So I put SP2 back in....and here I
sit!! help???
PS - ...."if it anin't broke....dont "fix" it".......

I also had a friend over who could ping the laptop but
when he tried pinging the upstairs desktop it timed out.

Open the TCP/IP properties, General tab, Advanced properties, Options
tab, TCP/IP filtering properties, check Enable filtering, change
everything to Permit All from Permit None. You need a third-party
firewall, disable the Windows firewall, but not the Internet connection
sharing and windows firewall service. If the service is disabled, many
more interesting and difficult problems will magically appear.

Q

I have installed SP2 on both computers at my house. For
the first few days everything worked fine. I have a router
connecting both systems to a cable modem, and after a few
days both were telling me that the connection was severely
limited. Is there a way to override the system with SP2
installed to connect to the internet anyway? The hardware
manufacturers for our hardware have no articles about
incompatibility with SP2.
