Installed/Uninstalled firefox - internet shortcuts don't work

Tried Firefox. I thought it was an amateurish attempt at a software
product. Importing favorites crashed _every_ time. (Never could get it
to work.) Couldn't get it to fire up when double-clicking an internet
shortcut from my email program. When I went to the help forum, I saw
all kinds of advice about editing the registry and editing arcane ini
files to make certain things work. Man, those *nix types can bitch
about the MS monopoly all they want, but at least Bill knows how to
write software that just installs and works.

Also saw the usual *nix propeller head crap about "you must be too
stoopid to use this product" responses.

Anyway - my internet shortcuts don't work now. Does anyone have a
suggestion as to how to undo the fireshite damage?

TIA,

First, Firefox does work. I use it and have had no problems with it.
Don't know what you did or how you did it, but obviously something
went wrong during installation. Enough said about that.

Anyway, since you uninstalled Firefox, did you make MSIE your default
browser again? Unless you mucked around with the registry entries,
MSIE should open any file extension it's normally associated with. Go
to My Computer and click Tools, Folder Options. Click File Types and
check the Internet Shortcut association and other associations that
are normally attributed to MSIE. If MSIE is not associated with those
file types and Internet Shortcuts, change it so that it is.

Regards.

Well, I don't know what I could have done differently in this case. I
fired up the installer, and got the above results. Didn't touch
anything else. When I couldn't get it to work right, I uninstalled it
from the "Add/Remove" app. Since then. I've had this problem.

I've narrowed it down a little more. I've found that if IE is not
open, my shortcuts work fine. If IE is already open, IE pops to the
top, but never goes to the web page. (Never even says "opening page
____").

Does this jog anything in your brain?

You could try this one

Start, Run and paste in the following line and hit enter.

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Thanks, but that didn't fix it.

Try Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and toggle "Reuse windows for
launching shortcuts". (hopefully reseting the desired action)

O.K., I'll try that right now.
