installed new dvd rewriter and it's not detected

just installed a dvd rewriter to replace a cd rewriter and the hardwear can
not be found. tried adding hard wear but still nothing. also the dvd rom went
missing

Is the drive shown on the POST boot-up screen? (The screen when your PC turns
on, if you have a picture of your PC manufacturer then you usually have to
press a button to see the POST screen (Usually TAB) )
