Butch

I have been trying to install XP-Home for over a month
now. Replaced CD, hard drive, updated my BIOS, all
hardware is cleared for use with XP. Problem is that not
all of the files will load properly. There are
several .dll files and a couple of .cpl files. I have
tried to get to the files to expand them, but cannot get
to the CD no matter what I try. I have even used the 6-
disk method to reinstall the package - no luck. Tried to
get files from another disk, no luck. I have even had our
IT department try to install XP and they get the same
problem only a larger number of files could not be copied
correctly. What is the problem and how can I resolve this
issue of the files not being able to be read.

Hi

Try a reformat of your HD with a Win ME EBD, then reboot your PC with the XP CP in the CD drive - follow the instructions.

What version of XP HE have you got - a full retail version, an upgrade version, an OEM version? If you are trying to install onto a new, formatted HD a full retail or OEM version should perform a 'clean' install.

The 6 disks are for use if your PC can't 1st boot via the CD drive.

The following article will give you very good advise for a 'clean' install:

Greetings --

The specific problem you're experiencing is most often caused by
defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of likelihood, either
RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. In rare instances, it can be
caused by a defective CD.
