Installation problem xpe

David

Hi All

I have downloaded the evaluation version of windows xpe from Microsoft.

I have files called disk1, disk 2, tools, {34xxxxx.. } etc as per their
standard download.

When I open the files and view inside the cabinets or the zip files with
Winzip it is obvious based on the original path stored inside the compressed
file what goes onto what disk and where. eg filepath.

Some of the files however do not have the filepath stored inside them. If I
copy them to a cd the setup works and only runs from a cd drive. Thats fine.
If I however choose to install the database engine and the database
components I get an error trying to extract the cabinets. I suspect this is
why I cannot login to the target designer or any other tools as it needs to
logon to a database to open a template.

Has anyone got a packing list of the cds the way they are intended to be
used?

I have tried to order the cd from Microsoft to circumvent this issue and the
transaction stalls when trying process a purchase in the website.

It must be the full moon that is trying to stop me from kicking goals with
my project.

Thanks in advance for any help.

David,

I don't understand the problem you are having. But from myself I can tell you that I downloaded the cab files a while ago and was
able to unzip all of them properly (proper directory structure). I used WinZip to unpak the cabs.
Hope your downloaded disk2.cab is not corrupted.

Also see if anything from these links helps:

If I use winzip on disk1.cab and disk2.cab, tools.cab and msde.cab I can see
the original path to copy the files to and thus make a cd.

07/05/2004 10:22 AM 2,000,843 disk1.cab
07/05/2004 10:25 AM 55,062,466 disk2.cab

07/05/2004 10:27 AM 5,457,793 tools.cab

{347677C8-8935-4D30-8DDA-FB6D701ACF47}.CAB

{484C9D34-846E-40E2-A2E6-FF2771A303D5}.CAB
07/05/2004 10:58 AM 0 files.lst
8 File(s) 329,145,320 bytes
2 Dir(s) 925,405,184 bytes free

The other files do not show their original path so what disk and folder do
they go in?

I looked at the articles attached in your post below and see exactly the
same errors documented. It explains what I have to install to get it to
work. It doesn't say how to put them on the disk and make it the eval tool
work the way it was intended.

eg A packing list should have come with the eval download.

I will try and put them on varous rewriteable cds and test it until I get a
working set.

Regards
David

David,

Are you just trying to extract from all the cab files to a CD?
Then {xxx}.cab files contain XPe Repository files. They will be extracted to
"\Windows Embedded Data\Repositories\{xxx}" directories.

Finally worked it out.
My C: drive needs to have more free space so the downloaded files can self
unpack themselves into the correct folders.
Thanks for your help.
