Installation problem with win xp

i have pentium 4 (2.4 Ghz) with asus motherboard. i have win 98 installed. when i tried to install windows xp ( pro ) . during setup i got a message ' xptht21D.jpg ' file could not be loaded. i skiped it and finished the installation. but win xp is not loading in normal mode. it just stops after some time and nothing happens. but if i boot in safe mode my mouse is not working (i use logitec mouse). so wat can i do to load my windows xp normally. please help me i have been trying to load win xp fr a month but in vain.

Did you run the upgrade advisor from the XP CD before doing the upgrade?
Try using another mouse.
