Hi!

My problem is that I bought a new PC without any IDE
harddisks, I have only one s-ata disk. When I try to
install Windows XP, it tells me that I have no harddrives
and tells me to press F3 to cancel installation.

Can anyone help me with this?

The problem lies in your BIOS settings for your SATA drive.
Read your motherboard's User's Manual and it should explain
how to correctly setup your drive's settings in the BIOS.

You need to install the SATA drivers when it asks for
them. Press F6 at the start of the windows install when
it asks if you want to install third party drivers(scsi).
Make sure you have the disk though or d/load the drivers
from the website.

I've found that with SATA, some manufacturers configure the BIOS to show the "primary" Hard drive as something different such as ZIP drives

In 1 case the ZIP drive was listed as the primary hard drive, and after loading XP manually, it was listed as the C: drive. I had to disable the primary hard drive in the BIOS, and XP loaded OK. Then I went back into the BIOS and enabled the zip drive

In general, if you have a zip drive at all, XP installations are conflicting and the drive should be disabled until after the install.
