Craig:
Interesting error.

Possible causes (depending on wether or not a new Drive):
CD, CD Drive, RAM, Boot Sector Virus, Drive Overlay.

If possible, try another CD Drive.

If possible as well, try another XP CD.

Go to www.simmtester.com to download a memory test to
check the RAM.
Or
Take out the memory and try to put one stick in at a time
to see which one is faulty.

As well, you might try this:

Copy the I386 folder to the harddrive and run winnt32.exe
from safemode or if it's a new harddrive:
run smartdrv.exe and then use xcopy <cdromdrive>:\i386 to
c:\i386 /s /e. (switch commands copy all directories to
the harddrive to prevent asms errors)

Then run winnt.exe from the c:\i386

Good luck with that,
Cheers,
Angus

Hey Angus,
I appreciate the reply. Fyi, I called Dell and they had
me do some of the very same things you suggested, as it
turns out, it was in fact the cd itself was bad. Nice
job, so there is your atta boy for the day!

Cheers to you as well.
