Installation of XP Home Edition

Installation of XP Home edition does not proceed beyond
39 minutes to go...

I tried to re-install Windows XP Home Edition. During
the installation process, the program goes into an
endless installation loop when the installation countdown
gets to '39 minutes..."

How can I get past this problem..?

OK. Not that bad. I have seen installs hang at that point for 30 minutes to
over an hour. Let it run. Go out for supper or a few drinks. See where it is
in a couple of hours.

How long are you waiting? When I installed XP my machine also paused for a
long time at the 39 minute mark. I remembered when I installed XP the time
remaining counter would jump from like 39 to 30 to 28 to 20 to 9 etc. So it
wasnt a steady countdown.
