installation of windows xp professional/home edition

i have windows xp professional installed on my computer.
i bought windows home edition and want to install it also.
can i do both?

Yes, but why would you want to? XP Home is a subset of
Professional. There's nothing in Home that's not also in
Professional.

what happened is my windows 98 was acting up and i had so
many problems/errors. brought it to work and windows xp
professional was installed. this corrected the problem
but i dont have the product number. bought windows xp
home edition today. do i leave xp pro on and install xp
home or uninstall xp pro?

Well if you want to do the right thing , it would be
remove the xp pro off and then afterward download your
home version .... Unless you own the company what you did
was illegal by installing xp pro version .... Just remove
xp pro off and install the home version ...

You can't downgrade from Pro to Home. You will need to do a clean
installation and reinstall all your apps. Backup up all your data

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools
necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this
procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your
peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and
keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed,
physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before
proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the
customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then
reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first
bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and
reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow
the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to
delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition,
then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install
Windows XP.

The Pro is not legitimate unless your company took it aboard under their
volume license - in which case you could go on with it as long as they
are happy. Apart from that you will need to remove the Pro to install
the Home system clean
