Windows XP was installed on my computer when I purchased
it. At Thanks Giving I had to wipe the hard drive, due to
spyware deleting needed files to opperate my system.
Since then the spyware has done the same thing, and I
need to wipe it again. Someone told me that with XP you
can only install twice on your computer without some kind
of prior approval or number from Microsoft. Does anyone
know if this is true or am I safe to wipe my drive again
and install XP. I would like to find out prior to wiping
if at all possible.

If you have a valid purchased copy of Windows XP, install until you are sick
of doing it.. You will have to reactivate - worst case - you will have to
make a phone call to do it.

Hi Chari,

You can install XP, on the same machine, as many times as you care to. That
bit about a 3 time limit is, kind of, an urban legend. I have installed and
activated as many as 3 times in one day and it still activated on line. The
worst that will happen is, you may need to activate via phone, no big deal.

Greetings --

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the Internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:

But I did not find any mention anywhere of how you get a second license and
how you activate it.

I have two computers, one with ME and one with XP Pro at home, and I would
like to have XP on both but I don't want to buy the upgarde for #2, the XP
Pro I have is Full; not an upgrade.
