installation of vista to usb

i would like to install Vista to a USB device (SDHC card or thumb drive). my
computer bios is able to boot from a usb device. anybody know if this
installation can be done??

I know you can install from a USB drive, but I'm not sure if you can install
to it. I'm not sure if you would want to, though. Not only would it run
extremely slow, but it would also be very taxing on the USB drive with the
pagefile accessing the drive so much. Hard drives have a much longer life
span compared to USB drives. At least for read/write amounts.

Hi ranger,

Windows Vista cannot be installed to a USB device. Even though your PC BIOS
may support booting via USB, Windows does not.

....and, amazingly enough for Windows, gives you a very explicit and
unambiguous error message when you try to install to a USB device.
