Hi! I'm experiencing the same problem, but I'm installing directly from DVD,
not through WinXP. After the "Installing updates" step has completed, setup
tries to restart the PC but fails. I get following error message: "An error
occured while preparing Windows Setup to boot into the next stage of Setup".
I was installing Vista on a correctly partitioned hdd like you, nesskwik. I
was trying to get help, too... but without any solution yet.
I hope we will find a way, I'm courious about using Vista. Greets

I downloaded Vista 32bit-edition.
Specs:
- Two hdds, the first with data (Disk0), the other (Disk1) for the system
(WInXP) with two partitions, one for the existing xp (Part0), the other for
the new vista (Part1), both hdds are IDE connected
- Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-7VM400MF
- AMD AthlonXP 2800+
- 1024 MB RAM

Thanks vm for any help!

PS. I read in this help section that somebody had the same problem, and that
he then tried to install vista on a hdd with only one partition, and it
worked fine... Do you think i have to do the same? Cause i don0t really wanna
lose my xp, since i don't know how complete and compatible vista is. I also
runed UpgradeAdvisor, and it told me that i can run vista without any
problem. Thanks for helping!

sorry nesskwik, i didn't understand that "get on the net" thing. So you too
can install vista if no xp is present on the same hdd. I guess i have to move
my xp . Thanks for helping!

Hi! Since I have two hard disks, I simply tried to install Vista one that one
which hasn't WinXp installed on itself. Installation worked fine, I'm
actually writing from Vista: it's pretty cool! You have to try ;) Greetings
