Hi - Am trying to install XP on my existing 98SE machine. But each time in
the analyze phase, XP flags that a specific program is blocking the
installation therefore needs to be removed. I've tried finding the offending
program but not much success - is there anyway XP itself can indicate the
location of this program as I cannot? Thanks

Did you run the upgrade advisor program that is on the XP
CD? Have you disconnected and uninstalled all printers,
scanners and other such devices?

Have you read all of
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316941 ?

You can also do an on-line scan of your computer at
www.pcpitstop.com See XP Readiness Test on sidebar.

I have used this quote from Colin, since it is useful to
your problem.
******************
If you have reinstalled Win98 then boot into Win98 and at
the desktop insert
the xp cd. When you get the splash screen select Other
Tasks. Then select
Upgrade Advisor. View the resulting list of issues and
resolve them. When
you are satisfied all is ready, run Install from the splash
screen. It will
upgrade you from Win98 to XP. It is not a clean install
because the files
and programs will remain, but it appears that the clean
install was not
working for you.
