installation errors for win xp pro

I keep getting a message 'cannot find file xxxxxx.xxx'
during xp pro installation. I try to skip the file, but
xp eventually tells me that another file is missing. This
continues until finally xp says that it cannot continue
loading files. Any help on why this is happening would be
greatly appreciatied.

This sounds like a damaged CD-ROM or a failing or dirty CD-ROM drive. Have
you tried cleaning both?

Thanks for the response, I will try a different cdrom
drive. The xp cd also had trouble formating my harddrive
(which is brand new and tested). Could this also be from
a dirty cd?

Yes, absolutely. (I confused you, for which I apologize. What we casually
call a "cd" is properly called the CD-ROM - that is, it is a CD-based Read
Only Memory unit. The thing we put it in is a CD-ROM drive.)
