install trouble

I get the following when I try to upgrade from 98 to xp.
cannot copy d:\1386\mfc42dll to c:\\windows\setupmfc42dll.
I have tried everything I know, changed cd-rom., cd's
Please help.

Hey Gary,
are you upgrading over 98 or are u doing a clean install?
If the former, then back up your user files, reformat the
drive and do a clean install. The upgrade xp cd will do
its stuff and then ask you for a valid former OS, like the
win98 cd.. which u have to put in and then you put back
the xp upgrade cd and it will install everything nice and
neat.
When i tried to upgrade over 98 last year i was in all
sorts of trouble just like you mentioned.
