i am trying to install winxp sp2 from a disc from microsoft and i keep
getting a setup error unable to read or write from database message can

Try to copy the .exe file of SP2 to your desktop and try running it from

Hi,

I would think you need to delete/rename the .log files in
the folder %windir%\Security\ (and maybe %windir%\System32\CatRoot2\).

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows or C:\Winnt)

I have created a batch file that does this for you (and some more
that is ok to run anyway).
