"install now" button doesnt work at windows update site

I have been trying to get the latest update, which I was able to do
with the last update, but now anytime I click on the add, remove or
install buttons, nothing happens. Its like a dead button. It
depresses but never takes me to the next page. I thought it was a
java issue, so I got the java program from java.com and I now have a
little coffee cup in the systray. Still a dead button. I took out IE
from add/remove windows components and put back in, I also tried a
system restore back a few days and still a dead button. I dont appear
to have any other issues at any other web sites. Can anyone tell me
what might be wrong?

It may not be the problem, but, sometimes malware, spyware or hijackware can
cause various processes not to work. Try the following and see if it helps.

Download and install, then you *MUST* update the programs
prior to running to be sure they have the latest definitions, then
run the programs below. They are free and very effective. Be
sure to run both SpyBot and Adaware, as what one does
not detect the other may. It is important that you follow all

HiJackThis: - Free

and download HiJackThis. Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the
Temp folder, doubleclick HiJackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button. Press that, save the log some place you remember where it is.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so DO NOT fix
anything yet.

Open a the copy of your log in NotePad and made a copy. Then you can go here
to post you log:

Go to the HiJackThis section on the forum list and click to open. You can
post as a guest. It's also a good site to keep for reference. The experts
there will analyze the log and report back the results. Please allow at
least a few hours or a days time for a response.

Remember, you must return to the HJT site to get your answer. It is a good
idea to click the "Notify" box so that you will get an electronic
notification by e-mail to let you know when a response has been posted.
But, you must still return to the site of your answer

I did all that you reccommended, there were a few little "bugs" but
nothing out of the ordinary. I still have the problem with only those
buttons on the windowsupdate site.
I did fix the problem, sort of.. I had to turn on the automatic
update feature and it did the update in the background. It'll do for
now until the next format
