1.  You are not using the Home series ....

You may have forgotten what you said earlier and from which my answer
depends:

I have a retail version of Ultimate. I can't give you the exact date I
received it but it was very fresh factory stock <g>

I have tried without success on my wife's machine. None of the >
commands work.

I did politely ask you whether you did this with an installation on
which automatic activation had been turned off and prior to first
activation.

I would add that neither the article by Livingstone you pointed to:

nor the update it links to restrict his remarks to any specific version
of VISTA, and as I said before, they refer to SkipRearm which is not
the same as running the specific -rearm command and getting 30 days.
