inserting the full path and filename

When I insert a path/filename in a document, the full path doesn't show up. Instead, it shows the drive map for that folder. Word will insert the full path on other computers, just not on this one; I don't know what to change..

this is what it does
I:\help.do

this is what I want it to do
\\server\share\folder\help.doc

Dave, I've found this as well and I have always just typed in the full UNC when I need to. I am hoping for some trick from the pros on this one as well. I suspect there is no way to do this.

isn't it anything to do with MS Knowledge Base Article 171406?
