When I click Insert Text Box I get a frame with the message 'Create Your
Drawing Here' How do I turn that feature off?

Tools > options > general > uncheck 'automatically create drawing canvas'
(bottom of list).

inserting AutoShapes."



If you want a drawing canvass thereafter, then Insert>Picture>New Drawing.
