Followed MS Office Assistance advice on Adding a Movie.
Opened and played the file in Media Player. Followed the
Insert Object advice and a file is inserted in the ppt.
slide but it is either all black and will not play or it
is a white box containing the file name and a "no
picture" tile. The file will not open or play.

OS is WinXP Home and ppt 2003. The movie file has an .mpg
extension and does play in Media Player. Help?

It sounds like the linked path to the file exceeds the limit in PowerPoint 2003.
Try moving your presentation and the video file to a location with a very short
path. For example, move it to C:\Test_path. Then delete the movie and
re-insert it. Does it now play when you go to Slide Show mode?

If you are using a data projector turn off the laptops
display and hey presto MPEGS will run.
