Inserting an image

I want to take a screen shot and show a large portion of my screen next to
some text within Powerpoint. When I take a screen shot and edit the image in
photoshop, the image quality becomes poor and you can no longer discern words
or shapes or buttons. How do I take a large image, shrink it down and place
it next to text all within a new slide?
Thank you

In PhotShop, resample to a smaller image instead of draging from the corner.

Try using Free Transform and then trim. Then save as PNG.
